Skeletal Archer Archie

Completed: December 2012
Libs/Frameworks: LWJGL

Skeletal Archer Archie is my entry for the Ludum Dare 25th game jam where the theme was You are the villain. I created a game in which you play a skeletal archer whose peaceful life is continuously interrupted by villagers invading his cave. The game is a basic unit-micromanagement game: you (box) select one or multiple units, then issue commands to move and attack. There are seven levels in total, with each level presenting a different type of challenge.

This was my first time participating in a game jam and I was way too ambitious. I wanted multiple levels, multiple classes each with unique skills, simple sprite animations, etc. In the end I had to scratch many ideas and had no time for animation, balancing or even sound effects. I spent until 15 minutes before the submission deadline creating (not polishing) final enemy graphics. However, overall I'm quite happy with the end result. This project has given me a lot of insight on how to program simple agents that respond to player input but have different behavior depending on unit class.
